We Believe in the Holy Trinity: Ecumenical Creeds

Happy Pentecost Season! Holy Trinity and Ecumenical Creeds Reflections: The Doctrine of the Holy Trinity and the use of Ecumenical Creeds have both been subjects of much debate and disagreement. This blog post will serve as an introduction to both of these topics and my goal is to address all three of the main Ecumenical Creeds, The Apostles' Creed, The Nicene Creed, and The Athanasian Creed, and why the are important in Christianity today and why they should be loved and cherished. Some people hate these Creeds and they feel, that we do not need to bothered with them. However, these people are indirectly hating the foundational Doctrines of Christianity and hating The Holy Bible, which these Creeds summarize. What is the...

James O'Flannery's Address to the Class of 2020

Happy Easter, Pentecost, and Holy Trinity Sunday, Class of 2020 and everyone else! Address to the Class of 2020: Let us rejoice, that Jesus our Messiah, Savior, and Lord is risen from the dead. Jesus died on Good Friday to atone for your sins, my sins, and the sins of every single person. Jesus objectively justified every single person, who has ever lived, by giving up His sinless Life on the True Cross on Mount Calvary. Christians are subjectively justified, when they receive the Holy Spirit in the waters of Holy Baptism and the Holy Spirit gives them the Gift of Faith. Pastor or Lay Assistant: "Christ is risen!" Happy Easter, Ascension Day, Feast of Pentecost, and Holy Trinity Sunday! Why Do I Call Lutheran Church Services "Masses?"

Happy Easter! Lutheran Mass Reflections: My Aunt Violet Sheele and I were talking on the phone recently and she asked me, "Why do you call our services (at Immanuel Lutheran Church) 'Masses?'" Aunt Violet fears, that I offend a lot of people at Immanuel Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Lima, Ohio by calling our Worship Services "Masses." Aunt Violet thinks, this especially offends the other old people at Immanuel and other members of Immanuel, who have had bad experiences with the Roman Catholic Church, are also probably really offended. I want to address both her question and her concerns about me possibly offending people in our congregation. This blog post "piggy-backs" on the back of my blog post "Pastor of the...

Pastor of the Month (May 2020): Reverend George Borghardt

Happy Easter! Reverend George Borghardt Reflections: Reverend George Borghardt is probably one of the most famous Lutheran pastors in North America and he is the current President of Higher Things, Inc., which is a conservative youth ministry in The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS). I want to discuss several aspects of Reverend Borghardt in this blog post to give you a well-rounded view of him. Reverend Borghardt is one my three favorite Lutheran pastors on YouTube along my pastor, Reverend Michael Phillips of Immanuel Lutheran Church (LCMS) of Lima, Ohio, who was Pastor of the Month in March 2020, and the Reverend Doctor Jordan Cooper, who will get to be Pastor of the Month someday. Reverend George Borghardt has a...
